What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness, or mindful awareness, is the practice of deliberately focusing our attention on our present moment experience. Through our mindfulness practice we cultivate certain qualities of awareness such as curiosity, interest, compassion, non-judgement and acceptance. We learn to pay attention to our thoughts, emotions, body sensations, senses moment by moment. This helps us to understand the interplay between these facets of our being. This mindful awareness allows us to recognise our automatic habitual patterns; notice how we relate to our present moment experience; and ultimately provides the opportunity to see life from a wider perspective and to make more conscious choices.

Mindfulness and Meditation
Meditation practice forms an important role in cultivating our mindful awareness. And regular daily meditation is encouraged on our mindfulness courses. You will be given guidance on how you can start the habit of meditation and fit it into your lives.
The meditation practices used stem from Buddhism, but are presented in a secular way – ie you do not need to subscribe to any dogma to gain the benefits from the practice. Therefore, a secular mindfulness practice can sit nicely alongside your own religious or spiritual beliefs.

The practice of mindfulness has been found to be very effective in building resilience to stress as well as having great benefit for those suffering with anxiety and depression.
